Late summer I was attacked by yellow jackets and followed 300 yds to my home. Can they track by scent?

I drink beer regularly and find bees zero in on me at parks while leaving other people alone. I just wonder if my scent attracts bees & wasps more to me than they’re attracted to other people?

Yes, they have a quite elevated sense of smell, but they more than likely zeroed in on you because another already had stung. They will attack anything that another member of their community has stung, and can follow you under water, if necessary.

The beer thing? I don’t think that matters. What does matter is; don’t smash them. If you smash one, their entire population will smell it and attack. They stick together.

Some believe a higher iron concentration attracts insects — but that’s not proven.
