Browns RB Jamal Lewis will retire after 2009 season ends

Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis has made up his mind to retire at the end of the season. He announced his decision following Sunday’s 30-6 loss in Chicago, leading some to wonder if the 30-year-old was speaking from frustration and emotion.

Will Lewis return like Brett Favre? Yes, he can change his mind anytime, though he said he won’t. It’s just time problem.

Lewis is very downhearted about the poor score Browns got this season. That’s why he decides to retire.

“They didn’t sour me,” he said of the losses. “I just expected better. I expected more. I expected to win. I was excited to start off the season with the attitude Mangini and his staff instilled in us. At the same time, when you work as hard as we did, you want to see results. I’m still looking for them.”

As for the return, Lewis thinks that he will never break his word. “When I first came into this league, one of my main goals was to leave when I wanted to and not on somebody else’s discretion,” said Lewis, who won a Super Bowl championship as a rookie in 2000. “That’s how I want to go out. My plans pretty much worked out the way I planned them 10 years ago. I’m happy with my goals I set, because I’ve reached those goals.”

I think he will return. He’s 30, not 40. Maybe what he needs is a winning team. He won’t end up with about 11,000 rush yards, 60+rushing td and 2000 receiving yards.
