White Velvet

Can i remove the color from my velvet fabric to make it cream to maybe white?

I brought this fabric because i liked it but they only had a cafe milky brown color, so i thought if i removed the color it would be fine. WRONG… i tried rit color remover didn’t phase it (it did whiten the latex backing though) i tried a spot check with bleach, that didn’t work either, I’m at my wits end because i spent 144.00 non this fabric and i can’t remove the color. does anyone have any suggestions….

You don’t say what the fiber content is but you can’t remove dyes from synthetic fabrics (i assume since it has a latex backing it’s a synthetic, probably a polyester or viscose). Once they are chemically bonded and heat set they become part of the fibers and nothing will change them. Bleach only works on natural fibers like cotton, wool and silk. Color remover only works on natural fibers and some nylon that have been colored with water soluble dyes, not heat set chemical dyes. I’m afraid you’ll have to learn to love the cafe au lait color. I’d advise you to stop fooling around with it any more before you ruin it. Maybe sell it on Craigslist if you really hate it.
