What does a plate of mayonnaise mean?

I went to the diner today with my friend and my girlfriend. My friend ordered 2 dippy eggs with corned beef hash, my girlfriend ordered a chicken ceasar wrap and i ordered a feta cheese omelet. After about half of my omelet i asked the waiter if i could also have a side of corned beef hash because it looked good on my friends plate. About 2 minutes later he dropped off a monkey dish full of mayonnaise. This confused us. We weren’t even sure what this white stuff was for a while. ‘thats not my corned beef hash I thought’. None of us asked for it. Later my corned beef hash arrived. Our waiter was greek. What does this mean?

Sounds to me like the waiter dropped the mayonnaise off at the wrong table. Another table probably asked for a side of mayonnaise because they forgot they wanted whatever it was that they ordered with mayonnaise, so they asked the waiter for some. Instead of delivering it to the correct table, he delivered it by mistake to you
