Best method for dreading thick curly hair on a white person?

I have been thinking about doing dreadlocks in my hair for about a year now. I have finally decided that yes, they are something that i want.
I have been doing alot of reasearch on how to do them, but most methods I come across are for African-American hair.
What would be the best method for me (caucasian female, with shoulder lentgh hair that is thick and curly)?

both those answers are lame and wrong

natural is the best the 1 i did , just stop combing and they happen
other options are twist and rip or backcomb both come with a cost in damage especisly backcomb
i highly recomend natural, if not twist and rip
