Urchin Spines

How do I care for a long spine sea urchin?

They have them at my local saltwater fish store and they are soooo neat. Since an anemone seems like too much hassel, I thought maybe an urchin would be neat. What are their requirements? Tankmates? What fish to avoid with an urchin? I’m only interested in the long spine sea urchin, no other species.

These are really easy to care for and go with just about anything. It’s an herbivore. It’s even reef compatable. The downsides are it’s long spines which need room to move or it can knock over rocks. It also eats a lot of coralline algae which makes it considered incompatable for reef tanks by many people. You will need lots of algae covered live rock for it to graze on so that your coralline will regrow as it is eaten.
