how to trim excess roofing?

We have finished reroofing our house. Now we want to trim the excess singles from the side edges. Anyone know an easy way to trim them so they are cut cleanly and straight? Thanks so much in advance.

Cut the excess shingle AFTER it’s installed with a standard utility knife.
Press the blade against the metal drip edge and drag it backward using the drip edge as the guide.

It’s also best to cut it while the tile is still warm from the sun as the material will be softer then.
