best way to clean an old hat with a cardboard peak?

I have an old hat from the 80′s which I have worn a lot and it has got quite grubby, the label inside says that it is 100% cotton but doesn’t list any cleaning instructions. I am unsure how to go about cleaning it because I have heard the red trim colours might bleed into the light grey/beige of the main hat material. i think the peak of the hat is card so I don’t know how to go about cleaning that too.. any suggestions would be great!
