Country Musician Recognized At The Alan Jackson Star Ceremony
Alan Jackson, one of the biggest stars in country music history, received the most flattering honor anyone can ask for in Hollywood. The Alan Jackson Star Ceremony on the Walk Of Fame took place on April 18. Jackson has released thirteen albums since he first hit the scene in 1990 and his most recent album, Freight Train, was available on March 30. Now that he is on Hollywood Boulevard, he is guaranteed to go down in the books as an icon of country music.
Although it is a great honor to get a star on Hollywood Boulevard, this is not the first major award Alan Jackson has won. Over the years, he has taken home fourteen Academy Of Country Music Awards as well as twelve Country Music Association Awards. In 2002, he won the Best Country Song Grammy for his 9/11 tribute, “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning).”
Over time, Alan Jackson has been the recipient of numerous awards and has accomplished much, although they did not all come with formal awards. Jackson has 50-million album sales under his belt in addition to thirty-four songs that have topped the charts. He clearly has no intention of slowing down at 51 years of age, with a new record release and a big tour on the horizon..
Jackson is among a variety of music, television and film stars who have been honored with stars on the Walk Of Fame. Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton are just a few other country artists who have stars to their names. There are even a few fictional icons on The Walk, including Rin Tin Tin and Kermit The Frog.
It may seem like there is a star for every star on The Boulevard, but it is not so easy to get your name on one. Recording companies of musicians, or production companies for actors, must campaign in favor of the star attempting to be recognized. In order to be eligible, one must have no less than five years of experience in their field and must have contributed to the community through charities. You may also recall the Alan Jackson Star Ceremony.
Although he does not usually flaunt his good deeds in the press, Alan Jackson is no stranger to charity work and repaying the community. He has been involved with the Red Cross as well as the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. Most recently, he put on a concert to support the families of those involved with the Upper Big Branch mining incident.
After receiving his little piece of Hollywood Boulevard, Jackson played an intimate concert for some lucky fans at Hotel Café, a small club in Hollywood. Most of the audience members for the 21-song performance were winners of radio contests who traveled from different parts of the nation for the event. It is rare for Jackson to play such a small venue, especially one including his eight-piece group of musicians.
The Alan Jackson Star Ceremony recognized the accomplishments of a talented musician and loving humanitarian, whose efforts have forever changed country music. Whether he is making music or aiding charities, every move of his career has made a profound impact. Now that he has been immortalized in marble and pavement, his legacy is sure to live on forever. The Wizard of Oz $7.21 When it was released during Hollywood’s golden year of 1939,The Wizard of Oz didn’t start out as the perennial classic it has since become. The film did respectable business, but it wasn’t until its debut on television that this family favorite saw its popularity soar. And while Oz’s TV broadcasts are now controlled by media mogul Ted Turner (who owns the rights), the advent of home video has made… |

We Started Nothing $6.15 The debut album by Salford’s The Ting Tings comes hot on the heels of their No.1 single “That’s Not My Name”, a nugget of pop gold that comes on like a genetic splicing of Toni Basil’s “Micky” and The Knack’s “My Sharona”. The bulk of We Started Nothing follows a similar formula, navigating a path between the smart, angular indie of CSS, Bonde Do Role, et al and the pop mainstream. Here and there,… |

Tin Cup [VHS] $1.45 One of the better romantic comedies of the 1990s, this quirky love story stars Kevin Costner as washed-up golf pro Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy, who has the singular misfortune of falling in love with the girlfriend (Rene Russo) of his arch rival (Don Johnson). The Tin Star [VHS] $9.95 Anthony Mann made some of the greatest Westerns of the 1950s, all in partnership with James Stewart. Perhaps needing to prove himself as his own man, in 1957 Mann dropped out of Night Passage to do this film. It’s a rather schematic character study about a lawman-turned-bounty-hunter (Henry Fonda) who undertakes the professional shaping-up of an effete young sheriff (Anthony Perkins) too tent… |
