Dog keeps scratching ear?

ok i have a 4 year old boston terrier, she has been scratching at her ear, i have looked at the ear and do not see anything wrong with it. but her ear has an odor that it has never had before, the vets office is closed and i can not get her in until monday because we do not have an after hours here. i have cleaned her ear with a cotton ball and peroxide and put an antibiotic ointment on it. however like i said i did not see anything visibly wrong with her ear at all. does anyone have any suggestions

The odor indicates she probably has an ear infection. You can clean it gently but don’t go too far in the canal.

There is no home remedies for an ear infection. She will need antibiotics. Call your vet first thing Monday morning unless it is causing her pain – then she should be seen right away. You don’t want to wait long to treat it – if it is left too long, she may end up with permanent hearing loss.
