Styrofoam Balls

How do you paint Styrofoam balls?

I have to build a molecule for a school project and the atoms need to be painted. I’ve tried spray paint but it melted the Styrofoam, and I also tried using a brush but the paint doesn’t stick very nicely. Any idea how I can get these painted? Thanks.

use acrylic paint, it sticks to the foam, also to avoid a mess, stab each one with a toothpick so u can hold the toothpick and paint the whole ball
