Observe the Evolution of Men’s Tuxedos

Men in tuxedos look truly divine and admirable. A tuxedo or a dinner suit is also referred as a penguin suit and men’s tux. The satin or grosgrain facing on the jacket lapels and buttons distinguish it from other suits. Similar stripes are observed along out-seam of the trousers. Though this is world-famous formal attire for weddings and special occasions, very few people know about the story behind the evolution of this stunning formal suit.

Historians speculate many possibilities regarding the creation of first ever Mens Tuxedos and it becoming a part of a man’s must-have wardrobe. There are many stories that suggest how and why this outstanding attire emerged mainly in black or white and why it is worn with formal shirts, shoes and other accessories.

Though according to different etiquette and sartorial experts a tuxedo is mostly a dinner jacket, the first ever reference to a tuxedo goes back to the times of 1860′s when Savile Row’s founder Henry Poole & Co. created a smoking jacket for the Prince of Wales to adorn for informal dining occasions. During 1886, the prince invited a New York based affluent couple Mrs. & Mr. James Potter to his Norflok hunting estate. When Mr. Pottar requested for appropriate dinner dress recommendation, the Prince referred him to his tailors – Hencry Pole & Co.

Later on, James Potter brought the jacket back home to Tuxedo Park Club where the suit acquired extreme popularity. This clothing caught the eye of the party elite. The other members of Tuxedo Park Club copied it and got it stitched to have their own informal dining uniform. There were huge rounds of gossip among the fashionable ladies at the Tuxedo Club’s first annual Autumn Ball during autumn of 1886 where the attire was uniformly observed as the formal dinner suit. The style stuck and the formal suit that was initially confined to Tuxedo Park Club evolved further to be commonly known as Men’s Tuxedos.

If you need to wear a tuxedo, it’s necessary to get it stitched from a reliable and seasoned tailor.  You must get it stitched according to your body type and the level of formality of the occasion. While tuxedos traditionally look classy, it’s too easy to look badly dressed if you make a mistake with your selection of the style. Skilled tailors and drapers associates are usually able to help you with your tuxedo decision.
