How do I make my newly refinished hardwood floors less slick?

My wife and I recently refinished our hardwood floors with a water-based polyurethane with a clear satin finish and they look great, but now there are some really slick spots (mainly where the polyurethane was left a little thicker). What can we do about that? It’s pretty hazardous to our 19 month old, AND us.

rub it out with 0000 (four oh) steel wool, or a like type of abrasive pad.
