The Kenwood KMC560 Chef Premier Mixer Reviewed

The Kenwood KMC560 Chef Premier is a definite improvement in specification and capability over the Chef Classic. Sleeker and sharper in design, the KMC560 is finished in smart brushed satin silver.

Most people buy a stand mixer to handle the heavy work such as kneading, beating and whisking that can take much of the pleasure out of baking and breadmaking. Fine control over consistency is achieved much more easily as well. And it can handle larger quantities than a hand mixer.

The Kenwood KMC560 is equipped with a 4.6 litre brushed stainless steel bowl, with the capacity for 2.7 kg of cake mixture, 2.2 kg of bread dough or 12 eggs. Power comes from the 1000 watt motor – more than enough for most domestic work.

The motor speed dial gives you fine electronic control – the mixing speed is maintained regardless of the load – together with a pulse function.

There are 4 tools supplied with the mixer – a whisk, a general purpose beater, a dough hook and a flexible beater. You change the tools by tipping the mixer head back – a very easy process. The head locks positively down again to prevent lifting.

Before you use the mixer for the first time, you may have to adjust the tool height so that they just clear the bowl surface. However, just follow the instructions and there’s no problem.

The splashguard lets you add dusty ingredients to the mixer whilst it is running.

The Chef Premier comes with a 1.5 litre glass blender attachment too . It fits on top of the unit and is great for soups and smoothies. Other attachments can be added later, saving you space as well as money as you mixer can be turned into an ice-cream maker, a pasta maker or a juicer for example.

Some users say that the extra tools and attachments are not cheap – and they have a point. But they are built to last – and your mixer can last you 30 years plus if cared for.

There’s a recipe book included, as well as a CD/DVD to show how the mixer works in detail. There’s a 12 month guarantee as well.

Are there any points that people are less happy about? There have been a few comments about the level of noise, but not to a serious extent. A cover is not supplied – this would be a good idea if you want to keep your Chef looking smart.

Other than that, the opinions of users are overwhelmingly positive. The Kenwood KMC560 is seen as a mixer that will last for years, giving reliable service.

So many stress how they have re-discovered their love of cooking and baking – bread and cakes in particular. It seems that once in the habit of using a mixer like this, it’s quite difficult to stop!
