Rose Edge

A Different Approach to Your Next Rose Quilt
If you are anything at all like me, when someone says ‘rose quilt‘ you can just about picture how the quilt will look like before they have even shown you.
I believe this is where the actual problem with most of quilt patterns lie. Especially when it comes to ones using roses. They just all end up looking similar to one another. There seems to be very little creativity or imagination used when people think up new designs or patterns for their next one.
So I have come up with some ideas to get things moving and with a little bit of luck get some new sorts of patterns out there:
Retro Pattern
Our first foray is a hark back to the old days. The days when cowboys roamed the plains, there were little homes on the prairie and rustic looking furniture was standard, not exactly a designer look.
If you have got a look at a rose quilt from this age, they are actually very lovable. They have a lot of soft edges and roses appear more like billowy clouds than the realistic looking roses you see in most of designs now days. These designs also remind me a bit of the patchwork quilts you see from that time.
Neon Roses
If you want to make your quilt stand out, think about using a neon technique. Customarily done on a black or dark background, the roses themselves are customarily made from outlines in bright or fluro colors. The effect is similar to that of a neon sign, where you’ve got a bright outline forming the shape of whatever it is that’s being advertised.
This is a particularly striking and trendy design.
Mosaic Pattern
Finally, there’s the mosaic style pattern. Hard edges and usually made with pointy edge shapes, a mosaic pattern on your rose quilt will have an exceedingly vibrant feel.
It is a extraordinarily angular style which will separate you from the other styles of quilt. But on the other hand, that is the effect we’re going for.
So if you actually want to do something different, that will be remembered for all the right reasons, have a go at making a rose quilt that uses a completely different sort of design. The payoff is worthwhile.
