Using a basket instead of a card-box?

Hi! I thought of another question. For the card box at the reception, I was thinking of using a basket instead of a box. I have a basket already that is a good size, and has a handle and it’s pretty cute. I bought some ribbon with rosebuds and pearls on it, and I was going to try and dress it up a bit with that. Is that a good idea? Or is an open basket in general not “safe” enough? Not like I don’t trust the people who are coming, but just curious if anyone else used an open basket and whether you ended up happy with the idea. Thanks!

I don’t know about a basket, but we’re using a bird cage.
