WEDDING WHITES GET A MAKEOVER
Brides are constantly looking for new ways of expressing their wedding ‘wows’.
Be it a formally elegant occasion, contemporary sophistication or beachside casual, every bride really wants something that makes her special day one to remember. And that special something could be anything from the wedding dress to the table decor, the speeches to the bridesmaids or the music to the food.
Wedding flowers with a difference are becoming increasingly popular as modern brides become more adventurous. While white weddings will always be a firm favourite, bright and happy colours are taking centre stage.
Here are some bright and bold wedding flower colour schemes plus some suggested flower varieties to create a jaw-dropping effect..
We all know red is for romantics. Always dramatic, always striking and guaranteed to turn heads, red looks great on its own or mixed with white as an accent colour. It’s used more often during the colder months, but there’s no time limit on when red symbolises passion, love and beauty – so fire it up anytime of the year! A red wedding dress could be made of luxurious velvet or silk, teamed with romantic red roses.
Yellow is the colour of sunshine – what better way of celebrating happiness?. Yellow symbolises happiness and friendship and it’s bright and breezy personality is perfect for spring nuptials. Paler shades of yellow such as pale lemon and ivory are well suited to brides with a more olive complexion, and the colour matches up well with green, white and blues. Some suggested flower types for accessorising are freesias, tulips, sunflowers, daisies, golden rod, roses, lilies, daffodils, orchids, and dahlias.
More brides are also going for gold and silver as their bridal colours. A sure bet if you want your wedding to shine out from the crowd. To make it with metallics, what about stunning silver satin or glittering gold brocade?. It’s not easy to match golden flowers – but some shades of yellow can be teamed with ivory or cream flowers with golden accessories such as shiny balls, ribbon, feathers or metallic vases to create opulent and awe-inspiring arrangements. For silver stunners, try foliage such as lambs’ ears, westringia and eucalyptus teamed with shiny accessories.
’Green’ weddings in colour and in conscience are also gaining ground. It’s a fresh and inspirational colour and fabulous to have fun with. Most colours go well with green and it looks fabulous on its own too. Some of the flower types that could be used are calla or arum lilies, bamboo, chrysanthemums and lisianthus with a wonderful array of green foliage to choose from.
Black is also back. Not for the fainthearted- it takes courage to wear a black bridal gown but it’s guaranteed to get tongues wagging!. Perth wedding flowers specialists, Angel Flowers suggests dyeing flowers black as there aren’t any real naturally black varieties. Special effects can then be created using accessories like ribbon, bows and pebbles.
Brown is far from boring and is popular for autumn or winter weddings as it evokes a sense of warmth. Some brides are opting for gowns of luxurious chocolate velvet or brocade, while sleek, tailored bridal outfits look fantastic in rich silks, tweeds and wools. Fabulous browns for flower arrangements include elegant twisted willow, magnolias, proteas, pussy willow, nandina leaves and chrysanthemums.
Colourful celebrations are in fashion. If you’re thinking about a white wonderland or a kaleidoscope wedding, ask your local Perth wedding flower specialist for ideas and inspiration.
