If Someone Was To Remove The Red/Orange Tip From A Toy Gun Will He Get Into Legal Trouble?

I have seen some children and young people remove the red/orange tips off the tip of the barrel of their toy gun or airsoft guns, they thought it was cool. I heard a rumor somewhere that doing this is illegal, is this true?

I agree with Matt on this one, but do believe that our dear sweet state of California has a law on the books about non lethal guns having to be Flo Green Or Orange. I could be wrong but do infact remember reading that somewhere just recently..
