How to stretch printed canvas on a frame?
I’ve made something on canvas with (pastel)chalk, soft pencils and thinnerprint) and i had like to stretch it on a wooden frame. I couldn’t do it before i started because of the thinnerprint (flat surface, on a big mdf plate).
How can i do this, and without damaging the image? I never stretched something on a frame; used to work on paper. It’s 55 x 55 cm, with extra 10 cm margins at all sides.
I would first apply clear acrylic with a brush to the back of it, and spray fix the front. This would give the canvas more strength.
Then, use an staple gun to staple it to the stretcher bars. Staple one side with inly one staple in the middle, stretch it not too tightly, and staple the opposite side, only one staple in the middle. Repeat for the other two sides.
Next, put one staple to the right of the first staple, stretching a little staple by staple, and rotate the canvas clockwise, stapling one staple for every side. then you do the same for the staple on the opposite direction.
As far as the corners, there is no easy way to describe it here, just staple all the corners the same way.
I would practice with another piece of canvas the process before ruining your work.
