Why do Asian girls make the peace sign when they pose in photos?

Is it the peace sign or the victory sign or something else? Are there any Asians out there who can tell me why you use the sign in photos?

Its supposely cute in asian pop culture i guess, or could it mean that every asian war within the last century (korean,Japan,vietnam) was enmassed by the American soldiers poseing victory signs after anihilation of the yellow people. jk but yea its cute
