The startaboard keyboard for children with special needs
A new keyboard is now available which is specifically designed to help children with problems such as dylexia.
This keyboard, known as the big keys keyboard, helps children to become familiar and practiced in the use of computer.
The Startaboard is still the same size as the conventional one, but the keys are much larger making operation much easier. As well as this, it uses an imaginative system of colour coding such as purple, green, red, yellow, and blue identifying vowels, consonants, numbers, punctuation and function keys. It makes it much easier for children to recognise and understand. The keys that fall outside of the listed ones, are coloured blue.
Another great feature incorporated into these specialist keyboards comes as a direct result of analysis of children’s behaviour. Children have been observed showing more comfort with lower case lettering than the standard caps on a ‘querty’ keyboard. The lettering is also displayed in white, giving a clear and distinct message.
I have seen the system working well in the local playgroups, particularly the one at which my child has recently attended. Both types of keyboard were available to use of two separate PCs. Both computers had the same learning programme, which required the children to identify characters of the alphabet. Obviously the one that attracted the most was the Startaboard, which seemed to appeal to children naturally. I was not at all surprise when I witnessed it in action. I was remined of the coloured building blocks that kids play with, and metaphorically it was the same.
This These wired keyboards, which will prove of great value to children and teachers alike, works straight out of the box and is available with Combo PS/2 USB interface versions and is compatible with all the Windows operating systems including Vista.
Cherry Keyboards have a large stock of keyboards, mice and accessories for everyone’s needs.
