Caring For Your Underwear Needs A Little TLC

It’s fair to say that we take greater care with our special things.  It’s an age-old story – the more carefully we look after something, the longer it will last. It’s the same with lingerie. We all like to be treated with care – and the same goes for our underwear. 

Tossing your delicate garments into the churning depths of your washing machine is like leaving your fine china in the middle of a highway or an orchid out in a storm.  The ravages of the wind and rain would quickly reduce the delicate petals to ugly shreds.  It’ll be the same story with your delicate underwear.  Sharing a churning washing machine with heavy duty denim and dirty dishcloths is a death sentence for your lovely lingerie.  Rough play is not for underwear.  It takes a slow, gentle hand.

Sexy lingerie may be hot, but when it comes to washing it – it’s got to be cold.  Turn up the heat with sexy lingerie, but always cool it when it comes to washing.  Cold water should always be used for washing intimates, and in the washing machine, the delicate cycle should be selected. 

And to avoid any fatal conflict in the washing machine, always use a mesh bag to hold your lingerie. These are available in different sizes and can be bought at any supermarket or pharmacy.  This will keep your special things away from the damaging effects of hard seams, sharp zips, buttons etc.   And intricate detailing like diamante embellishments on a sexy g-string or lacy ribbons on a satin thong won’t last long on in the churning depths of a washing machine.  This will also avoid pulled threads on woolen garments from the hooks on a bra strap.  Bra straps that aren’t contained can also become twisted and stretched beyond repair. 

Velcro is also lethal for lingerie.  If there’s Velcro in the machine, Murphy’s Law says your lovely lingerie will attach itself….and before you know it, you’ll be listening to the unmistakable ‘rrrrrrrppppp’ as you prise your favourite briefs from the clutches of a Velcro strip!

Follow these guidelines when caring for your luscious lingerie:

·         Read the label for washing instructions

·         Go easy on the detergent 

·         If you can, wash items by hand and rinse well 

·         Items should be dried flat if possible

·         Putting items in the tumble drier can shrink them

·         A short spell in direct sunlight will refresh the whites of pure cotton

·         Don’t hang bras by the straps otherwise they will stretch
