What’s with all the mermaid spells?

I understand kids deciding they all want to “change” into vampires because of the pop culture Twilight fad, and I get that pirates came into popularity with Pirates of the Caribbean, but I’m stumped about the mermaid/merman stuff. Is that connected to Harry Potter, or has that just randomly suddenly become the new “thing” that 14 somethings all want to get magic spells to turn into?

I really dont know,
people just dont understand what Spells and witchcraft really do, its a mind set.
all these movie’s are getting into the kids head’s.
