Living in W125th St or W127th St or E115th St?
I have the options of either living in 1) W125th St & Amsterdam Ave 2) W127th St & Federick Douglass Blvd or 3) E115th St & Madison Ave. Of these three addresses, which would be the best option in terms of transportation, safety (especially traveling at night around 11pm-1am) and convenience (shopping for food, eating out, etc)?
Thanks!
I meant living in apartment buildings in those addresses.
I think that your best bet is 125th and Amsterdam. You are near the #1 train at Broadway. the A train at St Nicholas Ave. Food shopping has two good alternatives, but both are about a half mile or so. To the East is Pathmark at Lexington Ave, A good general purpose supermarket. In the other direction is Fairway, a store with a wider variety of gourmet and upscale products as well as pretty much your full grocery assortment. They have excellent service departments, produce, meat , fish, coffee, dairy and more. I would probably do all my shopping there, but that is just me.
125th street is a major boulevard and you will find many national retailers there. Plus the stret is pretty much always busy. As far as Department Stores go, the only one that I know is the new Target over by First Ave around 117th street, which also is the location of one of NYC’s great pizza shops, Patsy’s.
The other two locations sound sort of on a side street. Not a good idea. Even if the Madison Ave location is on Madison Ave the problem is transportation. You would omnly be a five minut walk to the Lexington line, but the trip requires you to pass under the train tracks which is kind of creepy. If you do pick that site, only walk to the train along 116th street.
Good luck with whatever you choose. Harlem is a vibrant place and many people really enjoy living there.
