Loose Feathers

Is it normal for a two day old Cockatiel baby to loose its yellow fur/feathers?

This is my Cockatiels first clutch two babies have hatch and there are still two unhached eggs. The parents are protecting and feeding them well, but one of the babies is now completley pink with no yellow fur/feathers. My male has OCD when it comes to cleaning…He is always cleaning himeself and my female but is very gentle…Could he be over cleaning, just the one or is it normal for them to loose this. Any advise? If it is the male over cleaning ( I watch closley and he is not plucking) should he be removed?

It’s not normal for a baby to lose its feathers. Is it the largest baby? Being the first hatched, and as it is their first clutch maybe the father is cleaning it a bit to much. You could remove the male, but this puts a lot of work on the female. You would have to watch and make sure she was able to keep them warm, day and night, and that their crops are kept full. Give her lots of soft food so she can feed more easily, things like, corn, peas, grated apple, cooked rice, a piece of wholemeal toast, oatmeal cooked with water and no salt, they also need greens like spinach and broccoli florets. You may need to help by feeding them for her once a day with a good baby mix, this is quite difficult if you have no experience, do it only as a last resort.
