Liquid Castin
How much Resin and hardener do I need?
Hi….just trying to make some basic pendants. I am using Castin’Craft’s Liquid Plastic Casting Resin. I want to only make a small batch at first to try. What is the ratio of the Resin/Hardener? Meaning What if I only want to make one pendent how much resin would i need and how many drops of catalyst do I need? (I am using the castin craft resin molds in case you need to know…..)
I don’t know if there’s any difference at all between Castin’Craft’s Liquid Plastic Casting Resin and Castin’ Craft’s Clear Polyester Casting Resin (perhaps sold in diff. places or at different times?), but in general the number of drops of Part B you’d add to Part A ISN’T always the same. How many drops you’d use for a particular session would depend on the temperature you’re working in, the humidity you’re working in, and the volume or the thickness or height of resin poured (at one time), at least.
You can find more info on using clear *polyester* craft resins (as well as epoxy craft resins) on this page of my site, and probably a link to one of the companies at least that sells polyester resins which should have the instructions for it online if you’ve lost the instructions that came with the brand you bought:

Polyester resins are not good for lungs though (and worse than epoxy resins) and really stink too so be sure to have good ventilation while you’re working and while the piece is curing. You might also want to check out some of the info/lessons/video links I have on both types of resin re how to mix and pour/apply them for the best results (because there definitely can be a learning curve).
You might also be interested in one particular looong thread at the Craftster forums that deals with resins (both kinds, plus Easy Cast which is kind of in-between):

There will often be more discussion of resins in the rest of that board as well as in the Completed Projects board for that category:
