Lemon Double

Dinner For Some New Friends

The pale blossoms made a lovely, low centerpiece in the middle of her cherry wood dining room table set. It was too hard to talk when a high centerpiece obstructed your view. On the sides of the centerpiece she place candle holders with pale yellow candles. Stepping back to the doorway, she analyzed the scene and was happy with it. The cushioned chairs and table were perfect.

Although it seemed a shame to cover the table top, she had a beige lace tablecloth on it. The linen napkins were pale yellow with matching napkin rings. Crystal water goblets were in place next to each plate and the silverware was arranged in the correct order. Everything was ready for her guests.

Three friends were coming at eight o’clock. She showered and dressed then came down to check the beef loin roast that was inside the crock pot with onions, garlic and celery. It had been slow-cooking for hours now.

The rice was almost ready too. She lifted the cover of the stainless steel rice cooker to double check. She had baked a cherry cheesecake earlier that day. She was a talented baker and it looked delicious. She would serve it with three cherries on each plate.

She had planned and carried out everything perfectly. Her pale yellow sweater matched the linen slacks she wore. Her earrings were lovely diamond drops. Her blond hair was brushed and curled over her ears. She thought of how ugly the hair of the Emo kids looked. They dyed it pitch black and put streaks of orange down each side. She especially hated the piercings they wore.

Walking through the already neat house one more time, she put out guest soap and towels. She took fresh hot pads and dish towels into the kitchen. In her bedroom, she hung up all the clean clothes laying on her loft bed with desk. The desk itself was a little cluttered with papers lying on the printer. She straightened the computer monitor and took a bill to the mailbox.

Finally, she hung up all the clothes she had decided not to wear earlier when she was getting dressed. She put on a bracelet as a last minute addition to her outfit. She checked her appearance in the mirror. With a satisfied smile, she turned to go back to the kitchen and make sure everything was ready. On her way, she heard them ringing the doorbell. Right on time she thought. She loved considerate people.
