How do you introduce a large black lab to 3 miniature dachshunds?

I have three miniature dachshunds and i just recently got a 4-6 month old black lab. I have two girl dachshunds and one boy who is very over-protective over me and the girl dogs. The lab is also a male. My lab just wants to play and gets too rowdy for little dogs and my dachshund takes that as a threat. What can i do? Please help, i don’t want to have to get rid of the lab.

I run an animal rescue, and what I always do when introducing dogs or getting them used to each other, is take them on a walk together. That way they get used to the other dogs being there before being able to run and chase the other dog. Once they are good on a leash, we take them into a yard. I keep them on a leash for a few more minutes before letting them off-leash. I would introduce your lab to your male dachshund before the females. Keep the girls inside while those two meet. If your Dachshund nips at him a couple times when the Lab is bothering him, let it go. Your dog is just trying to tell the other dog to stop bothering him, and they are trying to figure out where the new dog fits into the “pack”. Now, if your dog bites him or starts to act mean to him for no reason, that’s when you take him out of the situation for a few minutes. Hope I helped!
