My kitten has feline leukiuma what should I expect?

I rescued a kitten about two weeks ago. I brought him to the vet and he is 10 weeks old. He tested positive for Leukima I am so sad! I have four inside cats so I have him in a room alone so he cant transmit the diease. He’s very playful, active and loving. He doesn’t seem like anything is wrong with him. Has anyone had a cat/kitten with the diease? What should I expect? Thanks!

Brielle, I’m so sorry to hear about your kitten’s diagnosis. It must be a shock, but there are diseases that are worse. I had a cat with feleuk that lived for at least three years after her initial diagnosis, and she may have been positive for much longer without showing symptoms.

What you really need now is support. Thanks to the magic of the internet, there are support groups you can join without leaving your living room. Here are two that I found that would probably be good sources of information. Just be sure to run anything you learn past your vet first, don’t put him on any herbs or anything without the doctor’s okay.

Be sure you always keep your other four cats current on their feleuk vaccinations to be safe. I wish you and your kitten the very best of luck. I hope you’ll take comfort in the fact that your kitten feels good and that he found you. No matter how long he lives, he will be loved, and that’s so much more than a lot of these poor cats get. I pray that you will have many happy years together.
