how do i get the khaki/green colour out of my hair?

i dyed my hair black and got a colour stripper to get it out. my hair changed colour now its a green/khaki colour and i hate it… i cant dye my hair anymore because its damaged and i’ve dyed it too many times are there any other ways to get the green out?

okay, that green color isn’t something nature did to you, so it’s some leftover deposit of the black dye. You’ve got a few options, try the first two, and if these don’t work, resort to the last one I’ll name here. Wash your hair with baby shampoo and/or liquid dishwashing soap. They both lather/have ‘surfactants’ to deep-clean and have a stripping effect. In many salons (and the one I work in) when too much haircolor is deposited, we will wash a few times with either/or to lift some color. This *may* work. Don’t wash it a few times in a row, what you wanna do is wash, let it dry, wash, let it dry, that sorta thing. Each time it dries, look at it and see if the green is out. Don’t damage your hair in between further by blow drying, just be patient. Dry with a cool air dryer if you can and you can’t stand waiting for it to air-dry. Now if you wash your hair with these things a number of times and find it’s not doing a darn thing, try this: make a paste out of baking soda and water. Mix it up so it’s mushy enough to get through your hair. Spread it onto your hair generously, put a plastic bag or saran wrap over your head, and let it sit there for an hour. Then, wash with baby shampoo or dish soap. This is the method used to get that greenish tinge out of dyed blonde hair, which happens when a bleach-blonde goes into a chlorinated pool? This *might* work for you. If it does not, your next best bet is adding a semi-permanent color which will neutralize the greenish tinge. In your case, you would have to find a red color which is about the same darkness level (or darker) than you currently have.

If you look at a “color wheel” in, say, art class.. you will see that the “opposite” color on the color wheel from green is red. This means, to neutralize a green tone, you’re going to need to add it’s opposite color, in your case this is red. It *may* bring you to a neutral brown, or may bring you to a brownish red color which is still a lot better than green hair!

These are the haircolor opposites we usually deal with as hairdressers:

red/green
blue/orange
purple/yellow

To tone down any of the above colors, you must use it’s opposite color. All hair dyes are based in a certain color. “warm” usually implies reddish or yellowy, “drab” or “cool” may imply green or blue or sometimes even purple based (though purple is both red [warm] and blue [cool].)

Since you’re currently greenish, you want to get a semi-permanent haircolor which will not further damage your hair. “Nice ‘n easy” Loving Care brand semi permanent is usually a safe bet.

Since I have a heart, I just spent the past 5 minutes going through the nice n easy color palette for you. Depending on how “dark” your hair currently is, and how dark you would want it to be, I am recommending to you that you pick one of these colors:

nice ‘n easy 112A Natural Dark Reddish Brown
nice ‘n easy 110 Natural Light Auburn
nice ‘n easy 119B Natural Medium Spice
