LG 50″ plasma with 4 inch white line from top to bottom of the screen?

I bought a 50″ LG plasma TV about two years ago. Just after the warranty expired the TV developed a 4 inch white line from top to bottom.
The rest of the screen works fine and it has happened that this white line disappears for a few seconds but only very occasionally.
Have you seen this or have you got any advise on how I can get it repaired, or indeed if it would be economical to repair.

Sounds like it might be one of the X buffer boards.

If you take the back off of the TV, the X buffer board that is bad will be a small board located towards the bottom in-line with where the white line is in the screen. You may want to make note of where the white line is in the screen before taking apart the TV!

One way to tell if you have the right board(because there are more then one), is to unplug the ribbon wire from the board in question. Then…carefully plugging back in the TV and turn it on(be careful not to electrocute yourself)! If the area where the white line was is not working anymore…you’ve got it! If it’s still there, move on to another similar looking board on the bottom until you find it!

It’s hard to say how much it’ll cost because different models and brands cost differently. Once you find the board in question, take the numbers off of the board and do a search on sites like Ebay or go directly to the manufacturer(LG). You will then be able to get a rough estimate on cost.

Otherwise, if you take the whole TV in for repair, you’re looking at a much larger repair bill!
