How much weight can a solid piece of platinum ore 1 inch thick withstand?

I have a piece at home, I’m thinking about smelting it…

It depends on what type of ore it is but i would guess you could easily break it with a hammer.

Platinums melting point is higher than even iron you might struggle to heat it to hot enough. But all you would need to do is smash the ore up and heat it. You dont even need to properly smelt it it wont react with the air.

If you want to seperate the platinum from the rock you could smash it into tiny peices and pan it like gold.
