Choosing Glasses That Will Complement Your Face Shape

You can change the way you look with new glasses, whether they be prescription glasses or sunglasses.  For men and women it’s important to get the right shape and style of glasses to suit the shape of your face.  Glasses aren’t just devices to improve your vision (although that’s still their most important function), they’re a reflection of your character and personality.The only one you really need to please is yourself.

Square Faces: generally have a broad, deep forehead, wide jaw line and square chin.Round or oval frames will soften the jaw line.  Avoid thin or angular square frame styles and those with colour emphasis on the bottom rim.

Heart Shaped Faces: have a broad forehead tapering to a small chin and mouth.Your best course would be to go for smaller, slender, rounded frames or square with lower set sides. Avoid styles that are wider at the top as these will accentuate the face shape rather than balance it and look at styles without decorative detail on the temples as this will have the same effect.

Round Faces: are fairly short with a wide forehead, often with full cheeks and a rounded chin.  Try styles that are wider than they are deep or square up-swept shapes that draw attention to your upper face.Go for styles that have high set sides or colour decoration at the temple.Avoid small round shapes and very large frames.

Oval Faces: tend to be well balanced and softly rounded. The forehead is wider than the jaw (which curves slightly) and the cheekbones are quite high.Oval faces suit almost any style.Choose more modern small geometric styles that are comfortable to wear.

Long Faces: have high cheekbones and a deep forehead.Wide frames and a strong top line will suit you best.  A larger, square frame will help ‘balance’ a long oval face.Small square designs will not look good.

Triangular Faces:  have a relatively narrow forehead and eye line, broadening into the jaw line.  Bold or adventurous glasses will add balance to this shape of face but you should steer clear of small narrow frames.
