How do you get out of a situation where your hands are tied to a chair?

Ok, I’m not crazy. I’m writing a book and my characters have been captured and are now in the classic position. Two chair are back to back and their hands are tied the chairs. How do you free yourself from the roped tied to your hands tied to a chair? I need an answer ASAP. Thanks

Ok there are a number of ways that this could be done. The way most escape artists would do this would be to flex while being tied so their wrists, etc would be pumped up and relax once tied so the ropes would be slacker. The would also try not to actually touch the parts that were being tied if they could.
Another way would be to destroy the chair by quickly backing it into a wall. This would make the rope slack and could even give an immediate release. That would assume that the ankles had not been tied and might be a problem if two chairs were involved. Even with two people and two chairs it might be possible to break one or both of the chairs by thrashing around on the floor even with their ankles tied.
With two people tied back to back one might be able to work on the knots of the other. It’s tough for someone to get at their own knots on their wrists but not so if someone else’s wrists are in reach of their fingers.
If the characters were surprised, say while they were eating dinner,one might be able to slip a knife up there sleeve when the bad guy(s) weren’t looking or busy with the other character. Also once left alone they might be able to break some glass or use some sort of tool that they could find around the room where they were.
