What religion does a red bracelet signify?

I’m gonna try this question again in hopes of a viable, understandable answer. I met a person from Argentina, but born in Spain. He wears a red ribbon around his wrist . Does this signify a religion, or could it mean that he is a Gypsy? What is the ribbon for? I may have offended this person unintentionally and I don’t want a curse on me!
