Glue Bonds

Glue Bonds
Jewelry makers what glue bonds better?

I want to glue cabochons to metal rings.Which is better epoxy 330 or E6000?
Hi Diane,
I am using the clear glass cabochons.

You can use either one. Both will be fairly strong but the E6000 is a silicone type glue and will dry a bit flexible while two-part epoxy glues will cure stiff and rigid. The E6000 will be clear as long as it’s thin.
You don’t say what your cabochons are made from but some of the plastic ones could *perhaps* be dissolved a bit with epoxy glues, and some may perhaps have colorants that will bleed with epoxy glues or even silicone-type glues.

The brand of epoxy glue you’ve chosen has a 15 minute setting time which should be fine for things like this, but there are brands that take a bit longer, like Devcon’s 2 Ton 30 minute-set, that will be even stronger if that’s needed (and that particular brand stays really clear).
