Glass Microbeads

What type of material is best for keeping something safe from falling?
We need to have a box made out of something that can be dropped from a high level. We are sending a camera into space and then when it comes back down to earth, it will need to be so secure that it will not damage the camera on when it lands. We were thinking of making a box out of thick glass filed with a bag of microbeads to keep the camera from breaking when the shock hits it. We cannot find anywhere to find pieces of thick glass or something to cover the glass in (such as a nerf football or something like that). PLEASE HELP US FIND SOMETHING GOOD TO USE!
I think glass is a material that tends to shatter easily, at least in my experience, so I would avoid using it. I have seen rocketry competitions where an egg is launched on a rocket and then recovered. The winner has the least damage to the egg. The best design I saw for this was a 2 liter soda bottle stuffed with styrofoam packing peanuts, with the egg in the center but wrapped in some kind of foam or nerf material and taped up securely.
