What is the general or overall purpose of reproductive cloning?
What is the general or overall purpose of reproductive cloning? Why is reproductive cloning desired or required?
I need to write a report on reproductive cloning, so it’d be great if you have a source or reference for your answer.
In humans? Well, if you don’t have a partner or a sperm donor you’d be having your own biological child that was totally your child. In other animals its called parthenogenesis and is uncommon but not unheard of in sharks, snakes and lizards in captivity.
There are some lizards that reproduce only by parthenogenesis, and there is some genetic mixing before the fertilization of the eggs, but it is limited. The biggest thing in reproducing asexually is that you are able to have your genetics continue on even in the absence of a male to procreate with as there may be males in the future to do so with. That way your genes get a chance for that kind of reproduction.
