how do you get wrinkles out of satin/silk and similar fabrics?
I ordered a satin dress and it has really bad wrinkles and fold marks that it incurred in shipping. I haven’t worn the dress yet but is there a way to get the creases out without completely laundering it? Ironing the fabric makes me nervous because I’ve never ironed satin (afraid of burning it) any ideas?
Steam. If your iron has a steam setting, hang the dress and blast it with steam from the iron without actually touching the dress with the iron. If it doesn’t, you can mist the dress with distilled water (you can buy it for about $1 a gallon; don’t use tap water because it has minerals in it that might leave marks on the dress), and blowdry it while smoothing the wrinkles out.
Or you can do it the lazy way: hang it in the bathroom and turn the shower on all hot water. This should steam out most of the wrinkles.
