How to grow a flower that has been cut?

hello, somehow people cut flowers from peoples garden without taking the roots out and they take it home and grow it in their garden, how do u grow it, because i cant seem to understand how it could grow without the roots?

You need cuttings with leaves (nodes where roots grow from) to propagate. Remove lower leaves, dip in rooting hormone, place in moist soil making sure nodes are beneath soil.

Some plant cuttings will root in water, you’ll need a cutting long enough to have nodes (Basil and Coleus are two exceptions, will root all along the stem). Just a flower and stem won’t work.
