is it appropriate to give Chrysanthemum flowers as a gift for chinese?

so because of mothers day, i went to safeway this morning to buy flowers for my mom and my grandma. I bought cyclamen and a purple Chrysanthemum. Suddenly i just remembered something about people giving Chrysanthemums only for the dead (like to a funeral) and i was planning to give the purple mums to my grandma… Does anyone know if this is true? Maybe it only applies to WHITE mums and not other colors…?

Even if it only applies to white mums you still shouldn’t risk it. Your grandma might be insulted either way since a mum is a mum and she might also not know whether only white mums are for the dead.
