Epoxy Mould

Is there a way to keep unfired clay from cracking?
Can I seal it with some acrylic medium or epoxy? I can’t fire it, but need it to last. I don’t want to spend the time right now making a mold, casting, etc. so I need a quick fix. Please help.
Well….if you need the clay to stay wet then a good way is to wrap it loosely in damp towels and then put a trash bag over it, making sure that the bag is totally tucked under the sculpture or it’s base.
If you want to have a greenware sculpture then spray the inside of a trash bag with water…a light mist will do and cover it as described above without the damp towels. This will keep the clay from drying too fast and cracking.
Also your choice of armature can have an effect. Newpaper is soft and drying clay is less likely to crack against it.
Sealing it I don’t think would make much difference. Cracking comes from within the mass of clay due to shrinkage while drying.
