Edge Sating

Edge Sating
Sleep Light…Will you read and hear the lambs, please?

.
.

it is night now
in shades of burnt limbs
a wolf sleeps
under grim moons
idle now
hunger sated
thirst quenched
gullet plump from spoils
and in darkest meadows
near streaming edges
silent lamb’s rest
restless
not at ease at all
sensory alarms alert
ignorant yet knowing
sweet are the grasses
honey wine in waters
today was not the day
tomorrow looms heavy
.
.

“gullet plump from spoils”

That line prompted much research. I had never heard “gullet” used – except in reference to chickens – and a plump gullet did not fit – the picture of a sated wolf. A fat belly – might have been more expected. However, I stand to be corrected and better educated:

“The have a large gullet which permits them not only to eat big chunks but to vomit it back easily for the benefit of puppies”

See – what just a line – can do. Much less – the effect of the total poem message. Never doubt – your contribution. You cause ripples in your pond. ♥
