A Formal Style Dinner For Friends
She surveyed the look of the table settings on her new dining room table set. It was beautiful cherry wood with cushioned chairs that were made for comfort. She had put a bowl of fresh flowers and candles in the center of the lovely table. The settings were perfectly arranged with crystal water goblets. The silverware gleamed on either side of each plate.
Although it seemed a shame to cover the table top, she had a beige lace tablecloth on it. The linen napkins were pale yellow with matching napkin rings. Crystal water goblets were in place next to each plate and the silverware was arranged in the correct order. Everything was ready for her guests.
Three friends were coming at eight o’clock. She showered and dressed then came down to check the beef loin roast that was inside the crock pot with onions, garlic and celery. It had been slow-cooking for hours now.
When she lifted the cover of her stainless steel rice cooker, she found it almost done steaming. She had baked a lemon cake with icing to serve after the meal. Baking was fun for her. When they had dessert, she would place a fresh lemon slice on each plate next to the cake.
Her outfit was carefully coordinated. Pale yellow sweater with beige slacks and heels matched perfectly. Her earrings were long and dangling to her shoulders. Her short brown hair was carefully brushed and arranged stylishly. She smiled to herself as she thought of the Emo kids who put streaks of pink and neon green in their pitch-black dyed hair. The piercings in their eyebrows and lips were horrid she thought.
Walking through the already neat house one more time, she put out guest soap and towels. She took fresh hot pads and dish towels into the kitchen. In her bedroom, she hung up all the clean clothes laying on her loft bed with desk. The desk itself was a little cluttered with papers lying on the printer. She straightened the computer monitor and took a bill to the mailbox.
After hanging all the clothes away, she checked her hair in the mirror. She was glad she had selected the diamond drop earrings. She grabbed a bracelet to add to her outfit. She smiled to herself as she headed back to the kitchen. As she walked, the doorbell rang. She was very pleased that her new friends were considerate enough to arrive right on time.
