Why does my xbox 360 dashboard say mixed media disc?

Downloaded update for backwards compatability on 360 to play orig. xbox games and copied it to DVD+RW 4.7 GB disc. Insert it in xbox 360 but dashboard says “mixed media disc” and wont install updated. Am i using the wrong disc to copy update to? Does Microsoft make a disc with this update?

Did you burn the disk as a data disk (as an image)? You should be able to get the updates off of Xbox Live anyway.
