World of Warcraft – The Warlock’s Guide
My WoW warlock guide will illustrate to you the general pros and cons of creating this character class. Warlocks are well known for their shadow and fire magic spells and particularly for their ability to conjure and control demons. They are expert necromancers that deal in misery and agony. Though they can’t stand toe to toe in a melee fight, they more than make up for it by hurling devastating spells from a safe distance. Several of a warlock’s spells make use of soul shards which must be collected from fallen enemies. Warlocks are quite possibly the fastest class to level with particularly when going the solo route. In groups, warlocks are frequently the biggest DPS dealers.
Permissible races for warlocks are Undead, Orcs, Humans, Gnomes, and Blood Elves. The only kind of armor a warlock can equip is cloth. As far as weapons go, warlocks are limited to just using daggers, staves, some swords, and wands.
Warlocks are best known for their ability to summon and control a variety of demonic minions including Voidwalkers, Succubi, Infernals, Imps, Felhunters, Felguards, and Doomguards. All of the various minions can be useful, but you will have to determine the strong suits of each of them for the job at hand. Whether it is DoT’s (damage over time), DD (direct damage), or demon summoning, the warlock can cast a broad range of magic spells. They can even conjure up various items and resurrect dead guild mates by expending soul shards. They also have a minor self healing ability via drain life, and good crowd control abilities as well. One of the commonly overlooked benefits that warlocks enjoy is that they do not need to pay nearly as much as other classes do to acquire mounts (Felsteed and Dreadsteed).
The Affliction talent tree relies heavily on curses, drains and damage over time spells. This spec works great for raiding, boss killing, and farming. This is generally acknowledged as being the optimum leveling spec for warlocks.
The Demonology talent tree concentrates mostly on summoning spells and additional benefits for your demonic minions that make them stronger and more powerful. The Demonology spec is really good for player versus player and general survivability. It can also be good when leveling, though it’s not really as good as the Affliction tree. This talent spec can be utilized during early levels to make up for the lack of decent spell damage loot.
Destruction uses talents that amplify the power of the warlock’s fire and shadow spells, which are mainly direct damage spells used to quickly eliminate 1 enemy. The Destruction spec is better utilized later in the game, as it is difficult to stay alive long enough to use it effectively at lower levels. It requires a lot of soul shards, is not mana efficient, and is hard to use effectively for those who wish to play solo.
