Christians, would olive wood be more special then hickory or walnut for wood crafts?

Since, the Bible is centered in the Mediterranian and the Middle East, would olive wood be more special then domestic ones? I have wood crafts I have made of hickory, walnut, maple, etc. but Jesus never knew anything about them because they are American woods, because our country wasn’t even known until many centuries after the Bible was completed. That is why I’m interested in olive wood from Israel. I recently bought a piece of olive wood, but later found out it was African olive wood, but the part of that continent it came from isn’t mentioned in the Bible either.

That depends entirely on what it is you are crafting and how the properties of olive wood enhance that particular product.

In this particular case, *if* the symbolism of olive wood is pertinent to what you are making, then it would be “more special”. In other words, if you can draw a Biblical connection between olive wood and the thing that you are making, then olive wood would be a positive feature. If, on the other hand, you are making something like a birdhouse out of olive wood – well, who cares that it’s made out of olive wood unless olive wood makes a physically better birdhouse?

SO – someone might be attracted to the idea of an olivewood crucifix or an olivewood plaque with a quote from the Bible, and you could (and should) advertise it as being made from the wood of olive trees. However, making a shelf out of olivewood – that has no Biblical connection. Instead, make the shelf out of the wood that provides the best physical properties (long-lasting, less likely to warp, etc.)

I don’t think that you need to be concerned over the location of the source of the wood. Many types of trees (*particularly* olive) have been domesticated and are grown around the world. It is possible that the olivewood you purchased is the very same species as the olive trees mentioned in the Bible.
