How long does the ribbon on a pacifier clip have to be ?

I bought a kit to make a hand-painted pacifier clip at a craft show. It contains a wooden unfinished plaque, a metal clip and pieces to assemble a snap. It doesn’t come with a ribbon. The instructions only say ” Attach ribbon with hot glue ” and then explain how to make the snap.

I have a few handmade clips as well as store-bought ones and the ribbons are about 4 inches on them.
