Craft Yellow

Craft Yellow
What is the best product to create a porcelain finish on wood?

I’m doing a craft project and want to create a high gloss, non-yellowing porcelain finish on a wood picture frame.

What is the best product for this that will never yellow?

I don’t think you want a “porcelain” finish really– just a high-gloss, non-yellowing finish on wood. Using the word porcelain confuses it with other things and processes you probably aren’t interested in.

If that’s the case, then you’ll probably just want to buy a clear, gloss, polyurethane from the hardware store, but you’ll want to be sure the one you choose has UV-protection.
The gloss, water-based/indoor version of the Varathane brand has UV protection, I know, (and it also has something good called IPN) but I don’t know about others.
It’s also possible that a “marine” spar type finish will also be UV-resistant, but also don’t know about those.
Just look for something about “UV-protection” on the label of any clear polyurethanes you choose (and choose a Glossy one).

(Epoxy resin will also create a high-gloss, very deep, finish but isn’t UV-resistant.)
Most other finishes will yellow (or “amber”) only when they’ve been exposed to a fair amount of UV light from the sun (or fluorescents perhaps), or exposed to certain levels of heat, btw.
