Do you need some Fancy Dress Ideas? – Use these These Top Tips
Do you need some help thinking of fancy dress ideas? Maybe you are thinking of hosting a party for a family member or a friend, or maybe you have been invited to a party and need a costume. It can be fun, affordable and easy to make a fancy dress outfit if you use some of the following tips as guidelines.
- Think of a Theme
This could be a favourite movie, television series, children’s book, cartoon, toy, fairy tale, era or anything that you really like. After choosing a theme you like think about the characters that could work for that theme.
Firstly it is important to think about the theme you like and count how many characters you could dress up as within this theme as you want to make it varied? Then decide how simple it might be to make some costumes for characters within the theme? Think about whether many people will know anything about the theme?
If you choose a popular theme with lots of different characters to choose from it will make it easier for your guests to create an original costume and less likely that people will wear the same costume.
- Make it Affordable
Not many people want to go and spend lots of money on a fancy dress costume, as chances are it will only get worn once, so it’s fairly important to choose a theme that is easy to make affordable costumes for.
You can create your own costume fairly cheaply by using clothes you already own combined with items from charity shops or borrowed from friends.
Also have a look around online for second hand costumes, or if you’d like a new costume look for the budget options that mostly look just as good as their more expensive counterparts.
- Make it Comfortable
The last thing you want to be at a party is uncomfortable so try your costume on beforehand and make sure it’s comfortable. Move around at home, maybe dance as if you might at a party and make sure your movement is comfortable.
You should also check that you can eat and drink in your costume as you don’t want to have to take it off when you get to the party to have a drink~It’s a good idea to check that you can easily eat or drink as well as there’s nothing worse than getting to a party and realising you can’t}! If a mask or a headpiece is part of your costume try eating and drinking in it beforehand to make sure that it’s possible without taking it off.
It’s a good idea to find out where the venue of the party is, how warm it will be when you get there and how you’ll travel there. Obviously temperature will also depend on the time of year so it’s important to think about the season before you plan your costume appropriately.
- Make it fun
A fancy dress party should be fun so you might as well make the run up to it fun as well. You could plan your outfit with friends or family so that you all wear matching or coordinated outfits and go together as a group.
You can research a theme by looking on the internet for some ideas or have fun watching some movies with friends to get some visual ideas.
If you enjoy trying clothes on have a dress rehearsal before the party when you try your outfit on with friends and add any last minute accessories you think are needed. It’s always good fun as well to get ready with friends or family before the party so you can all travel together in your costumes.
- Accessorise
Accessories are probably the most important part of any fancy dress costume. They are the most important because they really make a costume authentic and make you feel like the character you’re pretending to be.
Accessories can be added to any outfit and the right ones will make you really stand out and look amazing.
If you accessorise well it will look like you’ve really made an effort with your costume and paid attention to the detail of your character. You can get most accessories online so with a little careful thought you can put together a really stunning outfit from home.
If you use all these tips you should have no trouble at all coming up with fancy dress ideas and creating a fantastic costume.
